Our history
Funded by the National Arts Council’s PESP 4 Grant, “A Season of Storms: New Writing” aimed to establish a robust platform for South African women and gender-diverse playwrights to connect, develop their craft, and showcase their work.
Our Vision
Our mission is to record the living history of South Africa’s culture by documenting the creative journeys and work of women and gender-diverse playwrights.
Gender, language and ethos
Gender is not a simple construct.
We recognize that by offering a space for “women and gender-diverse playwrights”, not everyone may feel fully represented by the language we have chosen to use.
Inclusivity and accessibility
All too often, when we say women and gender-diverse individuals, there is an assumption or a conflation of “women and gender-diverse” with the feminine or femmes. This is not strictly a space for people who identify as femme or feminine. This is a space for people who have been marginalized as a result of their gender, regardless of what that gender is.
